An evocative and expressive piece by an important, Cornish artist. Patrick Haughtons work is informed by his West of England surroundings and set within the traditions of British abstract, modernism. This early example of his assemblage/constructions is a rare find.
Condition is excellent. The piece measures 50cm x 50cm and constructed within in its original box frame.
Patrick Haughton (British 1942-)
Painter, construction and assemblage artist, and teacher, using cool colours and clean lines, in whose work a sense of place, particularly the coastal landscape of Cornwall, was important. Haughton was born in Davenport and grew up in Barnstaple, north Devon, moving to Exeter to study architecture in 1960. The artist Nicholas Eastwood encouraged him to paint, and this he studied at Exeter College of Art 1962-3, transferring to West od England College of Art, Bristol 1963-6. Paul Feiler was head of painting, visiting tutors included: Peter Lanyon, William Scott and Karl Weschke. Haughton qualified as a teacher taking early retirement in 1995 to be a full time artist. Member of The Newlyn, Penwith and Penzance Art Societies. Group exhibitions included Broad Street Penryn, 1989-90. Solo shows at Falmouth Art Gallery 1997 and Michael Wright Fine Art, Bristol 1998. Lived Penryn, Cornwall.
